The Shama'il of Imam Tirmidhi
“whoever missed the opportunity to see the Prophet (salalahu alayhi wa salam) need only study this book”
This is the arguably the most indispensable collection of hadith related to the Prophet’s blessed biography (Allah bless him and give him peace). It was compiled by the eminent hadith scholar, Imam Abu 'Isa al-Tirmidhi less than three centuries after the passing away of the Prophet Muhammed (Allah bless him and give him peace). It contains a collection of 417 narrations dealing with all spheres of the Prophet’s life from his honourable outer appearance and characteristics like his bodily features and clothing; to his hallowed inner traits such as his humility and humour. Scholar’s have said that whoever missed the opportunity to see the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) need only study this book to gain a vivid perception of what it would have been like to live among the Prophet and his Companions.
