Riba -usury- is of two kinds-

Riba Naseeya - i.e. to take interest on lent money.

Riba Fadl – i.e. taking a superior thing of the same kind by giving more or the same thing of inferior quality. e.g. dates, some other foodstuff, or gold and silver. Islam strictly prohibits any kind of usury.
