As Salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
A Single Blast
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَامِدُونَ
“It was only one blast and they all were silenced (dead)”
(Surah Yaseen 36:29)
Explanation:Continuing the story of the community who rejected three messengers and killed the one believer amongst them, Allah informs us that He destroyed them with one single blast. The scholars differ on the nature of this blast (Sayha) but they all agree that it was something quick and sudden which left the entire city dead. The use of the word Khaamid (silent, quite) indicated that the town could have been busy and full of noise one second then dead quite and destroyed the next. This shows the suddenness of Allah’s punishment.
This is a very important verse for all of us to ponder over. Death can come in many forms, as can Allah’s punishment, not all of them are big or dramatic. All it can take is a single instant and our life in this Dunya can be over.
The prophet (peace be upon him) told us, “Frequently remember the destroyer of pleasures (death)” Thinking about death, its suddenness and the fact that we can leave this Dunya at any time should keep any sincere human on the straight path, doing good so that we can meet Allah with a good end. I ask Allah to grant us all good endings.
