Sadaqutal-Fitr


Zakah paid at the end or Ramadan


648. Ibn 'Umar radiyallahu anhu narrated, 'The Messenger of Allah Sallalahu aleihi wa enjoined the payment of one Sa of dates (195) or one Sa' of barley as Zakatul-fitr on every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the Id prayer.' Agreed upon.


195- One Sa = approximately 3 kilograms.

649. Ibn' Adl: and Ad-Daraqutni also related on the authority of Ibn "Umar radiyallahu anhu but with a weak chain of narrators, "Save them (i.e. the poor) wondering around (in the markets and the streets asking for food) on that day."

650. Abu Sa'td AI-Khudri radiyallahu anhu narrated, "We used to offer it (Zakat-ul-Fitr) during the lifetime of the Prophet Sallalahu aleihi wa as one Sa’ of food or one sa’of dates, or one sa’' of barley or one sa’of raisins." Agreed upon.

In another narration, "or one sa’ of dried cottage cheese," Abu Said then added, «As for myself, I would continue to give it as I used to give during the time of the Prophet Sallalahu aleihi wa “ (196)

Abu Dawud also transmitted on the authority of Abu Said, "I would never give but a sa’."


196. The rest of this narration goes, "continued to do so until Mu'awiyah came to us to perform pilgrimage; Hajj or Umrah, He then addressed the people from the pulpit and said to them: "I see that two mudds of wheat from Syria equals one sa'of dates. The people accepted that." Abu Said then contended, "As for myself… “ Two mudds are equivalent to half a sa’ that is why Abu Said insisted on giving one full sa’as he used to do during the lifetime of the Prophet Sallalahu aleihi wa

651. Ibn 'Abbas radiyallahu anhu narrated, 'The Messenger of Allah Sallalahu aleihi wa enjoined Zakatul-Fitr on the one who fasts (i.e. fasted during the month of Ramadan) to purify him from any indecent act or speech and for the purpose of providing food for the needy, It is accepted as Zakat for the person who pays it before the 'Id prayer and it is Sadaqah (i.e. voluntary charity) for the person who pays it after the 'Id prayer.' Related by Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah and AI-Hakim graded it as Sahih.
