QuestionIs it legislated to recite Surah Ya-Sin for one who is about to die?AnswerThe scholars of Fiqh recommended the recitation of this Surah in the presence of one who is about to die. Some of the people of knowledge have mentioned that it is from that which eases the coming out of the soul. The recommendation to recite it in the presence of one who is about to dies is based upon the statement of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam):
“Recite Surah Ya-Sin over your dying” (Abu Dawud 3121)This Hadith has been graded weak by some of the people of knowledge and some of hem have used it as a proof. Therefore, if it is recited, I hope that there is no harm in that. If it is no recited and the people limit themselves to encouraging the dying person to say “La ilaha illallah” (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah), so that it will be his last words in this world, then that is good.
