assalamou aleikoum wa rahmatoullah wa barakatou

Kafaraa means ''epiaxation'' or ''atonement''.

For example, breaking an oath, or not fulfilling it needs 'kafaarat yameen''.

here is a short fatwa for breaking fast in Ramadan (from the site Islam-qa )
