Qiyas – deduction by analogy - Verdicts and judgments given by the Islamic religious scholars. These are given on the following proofs respectively :
a) from the Qur'an
b) from the Sunnah
c) from the unanimously accepted verdict of the Mujtahidun
d) Qiyas – i.e. the verdict given by the Mujtahid who considered the case similar in comparison with a case judged by the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) Qiyas is not to be practiced except if the judgment of the case is not found in the first three above mentioned proofs.
Or simply - Analogical deduction of Islamic laws. New laws are deduced from earlier laws based on a similarity between their causes.
