Hijrah - In general, the act of migrating from the land of the disbelievers to the lands of Muslims for the sake of Islam. Al-Hijrah specifically refers to the migration of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) from Makkah to Yathrib (Al-Madinah) and it is the date upon which the Islamic calendar begins. It is sometimes spelled Hegira and usually signified by A.H. or H. (i.e 1419 A.H.) In summary:-
a. the term is used for the migration of Muslims from an enemy land to a secure place for religious cause,
b. the first Muslim flight from Makkah to Abyssinia (Ethiopia) and later to Al-Madinah.
c. the Prophet’s (Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam) migration from Makkah to Al-Madinah.
d. the Islamic calendar year which started from the Prophet’s migration journey from Makkah to Al-Al-Madinah.
